Why is my hair falling out?

If you are male, hereditary or  Male patterned baldness or androgenetic alopecia is the most common cause of hair loss, where there will be associated thinning of hair.

Other causes include:

  • Stress
  • Sudden weight loss
  • Crash dieting
  • Vitamin D deficiency
  • Vitamin B12 deficiency
  • Following high grade fever
  • Surgeries or accidents

 

If you are female, the most common causes of hair loss are:

  • Following pregnancy or peri menopause
  • Iron deficiency (anaemia)
  • Thyroid hormone dysfunction

In addition, factors causing hair loss in males may also cause hair loss in females – these include:

  • Stress

  • Vitamin B12 deficiency
  • Following high-grade fever
  • Surgeries or accidents
